Redefining Cardiovascular Management through connections that matter

There are many cardiovascular management that can prevent heart attack but finding the right connection  can also be a key to prevent a serious matter.

In the Philippines, there are over 130,000 deaths related to cardiovascular disease in 2016. Cardiovascular diseases is a complex disease with many risk factors that affects how it develops. One such risk is dyslipedemia, which occurs when one has abnormal levels of lipids in the blood. Lipids, or fats are essential in providing energy to the cells while cholesterol is vital in the production of hormones and bile acids for healthy digestions.
On September 10, 2019, Zuellig Pharma Corporation and Amgen Philippines Inc launch "One Family, One Heart, One Goal" campaign that aims to help improve awareness of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) with educational initiatives to achieved the goal of changing the way disease is managed and prevented.

During the launch Dr. Lourdes Ella Santos,  adult cardiologist and clinical Lipidologist explained the 'Unmeet Needs Faced by Filipinos with High Cholesterol'.

Santos, explained that there are two kinds of cholesterol in the body. The "BAD" and the "GOOD" cholesterol. The bad cholesterol is also known as low-density lipoprotein  (LDL-C).

We may need this cholesterol to build healthy cells, but high levels of cholesterol can increase a risk of heart disease. With high cholesterol, you can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels. Sometimes, those deposits can break suddenly and form a clot that causes a heart attack or stroke.

Standard treatment for lowering LDL-C are statins, but there are cases when statins are not enough. Giving patients and family members an access to a new and innovative treatments and management is what Zuellig Pharma and Amgen Philippines Inc goal.
