A double celebration for Baskin Robbins

Baskin-Robbins (BR), the world’s most beloved ice cream brand, marks two significant milestones as it celebrates its first year in the Philippines and simultaneously 70 years since its birth in California in 1945. These major events inspired the launch of the BR 31 Smiles Project – a CSR campaign providing free cleft lip reconstructive surgery to 31 children in partnership with the renowned charitable foundation, Operation Smile.

“This is a very special celebration of 2 important anniversaries. We’d like to express our deepest thanks to our loyal customers for supporting the brand throughout its first year in the Philippines,” says Michael Dargani, president IceDream Inc., the company that exclusively operates Baskin Robbins in the Philippines. “In line with our commitment to serving fun and smiles for seven decades, Baskin-Robbins is truly proud to welcome the 31 beneficiaries of our BR 31 Smiles Project” added Dargani.

BR 31 Smiles Project is a campaign intended to bring back the smiles of children with cleft lip and cleft palate through free reconstructive surgery, funded by Baskin-Robbins Philippines. The number 31 is symbolic of the brand’s heritage as it is known for carrying 31 flavors of ice cream at any given time – one for every day of the month. The amount needed for the 31 surgeries was raised through various promotions at the store level as well as at special selling events.

One of the beneficiaries of the cleft lip surgery is Wivina ‘Vina’ Marie Maninang, age 5. Due to her cleft lip condition, Vina was unaccepted by other children in her community and was often bullied. Under the BR 31 Smiles Project, Vina was selected by Operation Smile to undergo free reconstructive surgery at Sta. Ana Hospital. Many have witnessed Vina’s touching story in the You tube video created by Baskin Robbins at the start of their campaign in June this year.

“Kitang-kita ko po ang malaking pagbabago sa aking anak na si Vina pagkatapos ng maoperahan sya,” shares Maritess Maninang, Vina’s mom. “Kung dati po na madalas syang umiyak sa akin kapag natutukso ng mga kalaro nya, ngayon po ay mas lumakas ang loob nya na harapin ang mga ito,” she adds.

Vina dreams of becoming a professional dancer someday. And now that she has been given a brand new smile, there is no stopping her from making this dream a reality.

“On behalf of Operation Smile, I would like to thank Baskin-Robbins for this wonderful project. Your ‘BR 31 Smiles Project’ has not only brought back the smiles of 31 children
but also helped their families and restored the enthusiasm and happiness of these wonderful kids,” shares Anne Gonzales, vice chairman of Operation Smile Philippines.

And the happiness doesn’t stop there. Baskin-Robbins has just introduced a delicious new lineup of indulgent Cookie Sundaes, premium Baskin-Robbins ice cream paired with warm, chewy cookies and topped with sundae toppings. Starting October, guests can create indulgent sundaes customized to their liking by choosing from a selection of warm and chewy White Chunk Macadamia, Dark Chocolate Chunk and Double Fudge Cookies to serve with up to two of their favorite Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavors. The Warm Cookie Ice Cream Sundae can be topped with hot fudge, praline caramel sauce, candy pieces, cookie pieces, whipped cream and cherries.

Over the past 70 years, Baskin-Robbins has brought its famous 31 ice cream flavors to the world. While the brand started as a neighborhood ice cream shop in California in 1945, it now has more than 7,500 locations in nearly 50 countries worldwide.

Baskin-Robbins was founded by two ice cream enthusiasts and brothers-in-law who shared a dream to create an innovative ice cream shop that would be a neighborhood gathering place for families. Over 300 million people visit Baskin-Robbins each year to sample from more than 1,200 flavor creations available in its ice cream library. Baskin-Robbins offers guests around the world a wide range of hard scoop ice cream flavors, along with custom ice cream cakes, delicious frozen beverages, ice cream sundaes and take-home frozen treats.

Less than a year after celebrating their 25 years, the well-loved publishing company churns out another set of page turning romance novels ranging from gothic romance, erotica to science fiction.

A collaboration by Bridgette Marie, Leonna, Lush Ericson and Luna King. The series is about four women—all virgins—desperately wanting to lose their virginity, and having embarrassing results. It would show how love could bloom despite superficiality, mistakes, and failures.  It would show how love could bloom from an epic fail.

Hot Fangs Book 1: Dark Angel by Venus Franz
The gothic/paranormal romance series that also hints a bit humor—consists of nine stories—is all about the powerful and fanged creatures called Atereangelus {it-re-an-je-lus}, an ancient race of half-angel, half-vampire creatures that lived (discreetly and secretly) in modern day among ordinary people.

Brak, The Bastard of Agron by Rose Tan
This is a science fiction/love story/comedy. It has elements of alien romcoms, and Somewher In Time (the movie) where true love knows no time. The novel also tackles how it is to be HUMAN. As the heroine, a human, teaches the hero, an alien, how to be a human being. She is also discovering her own humanity, her weaknesses, her strength, her mistakes, her heart and soul. The alien on the other hand discovers human emotions that defy all explanations. The process is hilarious but at certain points, sad.
It is a journey… through self-discovery… through space and through time.

DIARY NG MAGANDA by Victoria Amor
In love?

Alin man sa dalawa ang ‘oo’ ang sagot mo ay bahagi ka ng kuwentong ito…

A Pasta Festa for the People

Craving for a bit of Italian? The first thing that comes to mind is a big heaping bowl of pasta, covered with your favorite sauce and sprinkled with lots of Parmesan cheese. It is a dish that everyone loves to eat often, that pasta has become a kitchen pantry staple. Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta brings a taste of Italy to the Filipino home with its line of Italian artisanal pasta noodles, made of 100% durum wheat semolina.
FETTUCCINE is derived from the Italian word fetta, meaning ribbon.
This basic noodle provides a better surface for catching sauce.
It is often served in Alfredo sauce, a mix of parmesan cheese and butter.
Available in 500g pack.

Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta is produced according to the tradition of true Italian pasta. There is actually an Italian law that prescribes that pasta must be made using 100% durum wheat semolina, which is the hardest of all the wheat varieties and has the highest protein content. It is the use of durum wheat that makes pasta “al dente” or “firm to the bite.” Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta is also made using traditional bronze dies, which gives the noodles ridges, which helps the sauce cling to the noodles more, for a richer flavor. Plus, Doña Elena uses all natural GMO-free ingredients in its pasta, which makes it really good for you!
FUSILLI (singular fusillo) are long, thick, corkscrew-shaped pasta.
It is this shape that lets fusilli hold a lot of flavor and sauces.
Available in 250g & 500g packs.

Over the years, pasta has become such a favorite dish for Filipinos. In fact, almost every gathering or special occasion isn’t complete without a big platter of spaghetti Bolognese or baked macaroni. Or maybe even an original recipe using shrimp, Spanish sardines or even spicy tuyo. Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta brings the Filipino’s passion for this versatile noodle to the forefront with the celebration of World Pasta Month, this October. The celebration started in Rome in 1995 with the First World Pasta Congress, and countries all over the world have come up with their own festivities since. After all, pasta is a global food consumed in all five continents and is a perfect fit for a dynamic and healthy lifestyle. The campaign and series of events will highlight every foodie’s love for pasta and how it has become such an integral part of Pinoy culture.
LASAGNA (singular lasagne) is a wide, flat pasta shape with curly edges that help hold the sauce. It is probably the oldest form of pasta in the Mediterranean. Its most common dish involves layering the pasta with alternating béchamel and meat sauces and baking the whole assembly in an oven. Available in 500g pack.

The campaign kicks off with the Doña Elena Al Dente Online Pasta Recipe Contest, which is open to all home cooks and pasta enthusiasts. The mechanics are simple – upload a photo of your pasta dish with your original or favorite recipe made using Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta to Instagram and tag @DonaElenaCuisineraClub with the hashtag #AlDentePastaMonth. Don’t have Instagram? You can also upload your entries to Each entry will be reviewed for a chance to be part of the finals where the top five will have to cook their dish in front of a live audience at the upcoming Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta Festa. Deadline for submission of entries is on September 30, 2015. For more contest details, you can log on to No need to wait! It’s time to say…Al Dente!
PENNE (singular penna) RIGATE (ridged).
The pasta gets its name from penna, meaning feather or quill.
It is often used in various pasta dishes, boiled until al dente and tossed
with sauces or baked in ovens. Available in 250g & 500g packs.

The main highlight of the Pasta-rrific festivities is the Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta Festa – World Pasta Month Celebration to be held on October 9 at the Main Mall Atrium, SM Mall of Asia. It is not to be missed by foodies, home cooks and aspiring chefs alike – and it’s best to come with a healthy appetite. The event will feature an Italian Food Fair, reminiscent of walking thru the food streets of Italy. Looking for a new recipe to try? Chef Ben Bernardo of Café Royal & Pasha, along with Chef Roberto Bellini (of the famed Bellini’s Restaurant in Cubao) will be sharing their favorite recipes in a fun cooking demonstration. Another highlight will be the grand finals for the Doña Elena Al Dente Online Pasta Recipe Contest, to see who will emerge with the best pasta recipe of the season, for a chance to win cash and kitchen appliances. If you’re feeling a little hungry, the Pasta Eating Contest could be right up your alley, where you can chow down on delicious Doña Elena Al Dente Pasta dishes and win a prize. It will definitely be a fun day of eating, cooking and celebrating, so mark the date on your calendars. The event will be hosted by Aksyon sa Umaga Anchor Grace Lee.
The most popular form of pasta, SPAGHETTI is (singular spaghetto) derived from the Italian word spago, meaning thin string or twine. Its best-known servings are Spaghetti alla Bolognese and Aglio Olio. Available in 500g pack.
The Doña Elena Pasta Fiesta - World Pasta Month Celebration is in cooperation with media partners Food Magazine, Working Mom Magazine,,, Business Mirror, Malaya Business Insight, Business World, HerWord and Mommy Bloggers Philippines; and partners Masflex, Whirlpool, Tecnogas, Corelle, Ginhawa Spa and Dining, Caffe Bene and Gloria Jeans Coffee.

Experience natural care “down there”

Everyone’s going all-natural these days, whether we’re talking about organic food, health supplements from plant and animal extracts, and even personal care and beauty products. And, why not? It’s important to make sure that what we ingest or apply onto our skin is something that won’t harm us.

The folks behind best-selling feminine wash pH Care have an intimate understanding of the importance of using natural ingredients for your most sensitive part, your bikini area. This is why they’ve come up with their all-new pH Care Naturals line in two variants: pH Care Naturals Papaya and pH Care Naturals Guava.
pH Care Naturals Papaya
There are a lot of factors that can influence a woman’s confidence when it comes to donning that swimsuit, including puson problems and cleavage consciousness. But one other common insecurity many women have is dark skin in and around the bikini area, and this is something they can feel self-conscious about even in the comfort and privacy of their own rooms and bathrooms. And while there are many products for whitening dark skin in other parts of the body, most of these aren’t safe or suited for use in intimate areas. Now, however, pH Care has a new whitening feminine wash that uses natural ingredients, so you keep the sensitive area fresh and fair. The new pH Care Naturals Papaya cleanses the bikini area while the papaya extract, added to its formulation, aids in skin-whitening, so you get fairer skin in as early as 14 days.

Even if you’re not overly concerned with dark skin, you may still want a feminine wash made from natural ingredients that will still keep your intimate area fresh and clean. After all, in a hot country like ours, sweat can lead to discomfort, even body odor, and infection—and it’s worse when it involves the bikini area! But no need to worry; pH Care Naturals Guava has been specially infused with guava leaf extract, which is well-known for its cleansing and anti-bacterial properties over the years. So if you’re 1 in 3 Filipinas constantly seeking for natural solutions “down there,” then give pH Care Naturals a try. It will naturally deodorize the area so you can feel confident regardless of outfit, activity, or even weather.

The NEW! pH Care Naturals variants are available at leading supermarkets, drugstores, and beauty stores. For more information, check out

Balut Aligue - Mati's is the only restaurant that bravely develop this kind of dish. This is truly a "Putok Batok" dish. A local Filipino favorite combined together. My first reaction when I saw this is "OMG, what will it taste like?" But when I finally tasted, well it's really awesome. The balut compliments perfectly with alige. But for the people with hypertension better not to eat. You know what I mean... It's cholesterol overload! The price for this plate is P195.00

EastWest makes first-time home buying from top-tier developers easier

EastWest now offers financing for home buyers from top real estate builders Ayala Land, Megaworld, Robinsons Land, and Rockwell Land Corp. With its distinction for offering some of the market’s best customer-friendly loans, EastWest’s efforts also just made owning a first home much easier to reach.
The country is in the midst of promising economic horizons, which has led to a vigorous housing boom. Prospective buyers are eyeing to get the property that they dream of. Though properties are being built in an unprecedented pace, developments continue to be scooped up and booked full even at pre-selling stages.

Now may be the best time for the upwardly mobile Filipino to achieve home-ownership – long considered one of life’s major milestones. And that the home was built by one of the country’s premier real estate developers makes that milestone icing on the cake.

“We want to help young couples and heads of growing families in their pursuit of home ownership, so we came up with steps to make loan applications easier,” said Yolanda de Claro, EastWest Home Loans Head. “Securing financing for a home that’s built by a developer partner is one way to do that since that developer has already been approved by the bank. The loan process with an accredited partner runs shorter.”

More importantly, in the mad dash for properties in the market, swift approval means the buyer won’t lose the home they’re eyeing to buy. EastWest brings the goal of home-ownership within easy reach.

“We have chosen the biggest, most credible and financially stable developers who have impeccable records for delivering timely completions, and we combined that with our competitive rates, flexible terms, and the service reach of our 412 branches,” said De Claro.

“If you’re a first-time home buyer, this is really a great opportunity to purchase your dream home from some of the country’s distinctive realty developers.”

Did you know that even how good you take care of yourself, you are still susceptible to develop warts? Warts are caused by a certain strain of human papillomavirus (HPV) and anyone can get warts. Even children and teens can get warts. Although warts in children disappear after some time, some can thrive up to their adult years. And if the wart is located on the face or other visible areas, it can cause embarrassment and inadvertently lowers a person’s self esteem.

“If you have a weakened immune system, you are more susceptible to develop warts,” adds Richard B. Dela Cruz, President of RCC Amazing Touch International, Inc. (RCCAT). According to him, warts are contagious that it can spread from one person to the other through touch or skin contact. He explains that warts can even spread by the mere use of towels that are exposed to warts.

He further explains that touching a door handle infected with HPV can also spread warts. A cut or a scrape can even become an entry point for HPV that causes warts. “Every person develops warts many times in their lifetime. So even though you have removed warts now, it doesn’t mean that you wouldn’t in the next few months or years.”

Although warts commonly found in the body are harmless, warts found in the genitalia are a different story. Accordingly, genital warts should be treated as soon as possible since it can spread and grow in large numbers. It is also a common viral sexually transmitted infection (STI) so it is contagious and it can infect another person.

Another reason why people with genital warts should worry is that HPV can cause cancers, specifically cervical and anal cancers. “The presence of warts on the genitalia means that a person was exposed to HPV, and medical researches tell us that HPV poses risks that can develop cancers,” Dela Cruz warns.

The same thing with moles; some people are born with it while other moles appear during childhood and adolescence. Although moles are generally harmless, some moles are cancerous. “If the mole is not symmetrical in shape, if it changes in color, size and shape, if it itches, painful and it bleeds, then the mole can be malignant or cancerous,” he says.

“Even if the mole is not cancerous, some moles are located in parts of the body can draw attention and can affect the person’s self-esteem.” He shares that some clients who visited RCC Amazing Touch clinics have moles on their eyelids or near the eyes, tips of their nose, and lips; the location of the moles can affect the confidence since it can draw attention.

“Even though how much you don’t want to stare at their moles, it is quite a challenge since they are located on the face. You don’t want to be rude, pero ang hirap iwasan ng tingin,” he smiles.

Treatment and Removal of Mole, Warts and Other Skin Growths

“If you are concerned about a mole that shows signs that it might be cancerous, it is best to visit any of the 24 branches of RCC Amazing Touch clinics to have it treated and removed,” Dela Cruz reminds.

He also shares that RCCAT uses herbal cautery not just for the removal of moles, but also warts, milia, skin tags, xanthelasma and other skin outgrowths. “Our products are proven effective, safe, non-invasive, and relatively painless as compared to other forms of treatment.”

Although there are other treatments like surgery using a scalpel, laser surgery, cryotherapy (freezing), electrocautery (use of low electrical current), topical applications, and home remedies (they may work, but they often don’t), herbal cautery is still a safer alternative to effectively remove skin outgrowths. “Our treatment services need no anesthesia and relatively less painful. Parang kagat lang ng langgam. Kayang-kaya,” he quips.

He narrates that RCCAT can even treat warts, moles and other skin outgrowths located in sensitive areas like eyelids or nose. “Other forms of treatments can’t do that. If you will go for surgery, the skin around the warts or moles will be affected as well. But with herbal cautery, tinutumbok mo lang ang moles at warts, yun lang ang tinatanggal mo at hindi kasama ang skin around it.”

“We’ve been treating and removing warts and moles for 18 years now so our products and our treatments are proven through the years,” he proudly shares. He further shared that RCCAT products garnered several prestigious awards from coveted invention exhibits in the Philippines and across the globe. The inventions Demole (for the removal of moles) and Dewart (for the removal of warts) even won the highest awards in the British invention exposition.

“Our products bested other entries from inventors across the globe. We even garnered several Gold Awards from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and that’s a feat that we are really proud of.”

“For almost two decades operating as RCCAT and almost 3 decades since our father Rolando C. Dela Cruz  invented the herbal treatment, we’ve perfected our treatment methods to ensure the efficacy and safety of our product. We also offer free consultation and a guarantee of treatment. Clients can go back for a follow up treatment for free,” he says.

Although most of their clinics are located in the NCR, RCCAT also has some branches in Cebu, Iloilo and Bacolod.  “We are gearing for a wider market reach through online marketing and we want to reach more clients, especially in areas that we don’t have clinical branches yet. Using online platforms like social media, through the help of our blogger friends, we can reach clients in different parts of the country, even those who are living abroad.”
