Local Company Launches Affordable BP Drug

InnoGen Pharmaceuticals Philippines Inc., a multi-awarded local drug company based in Quezon City, recently launched Valianz – a new weapon in the fight against hypertension that affects 14 million Filipinos.

Designed to bridge the gap between efficacy and affordability, Valianz is a fixed dose combination product for stage 2 hypertension with two powerful drugs, namely amlodipine besylate and valsartan, and a price that isn’t hard to swallow. Around 400 doctors, mostly cardiologists, were present when Valianz was introduced in February 2015 at the InnoGen Hall, MNB Building at 124 Sct. Lazcano St., Sacred Heart, Quezon City (Tel. No. 921-9812).

“Valianz is your alliance in blood pressure (BP) control. It combines two proven medications in one pill. With this drug, patients can save money and enjoy effective BP control at the same time. This closes the gap between affordability and adherence which prevents many patients from taking their prescribed medicines,” according to Arllin Aga Ayson, InnoGen group product manager.

This unique combination will make it easy for patients to stick to their prescribed medicines and, hopefully, prevent many needless deaths caused by hypertension and its life-threatening complications.

The Department of Health (DOH) said 25% of Filipino adults or about 14 million people have high blood pressure. Many are unaware of the disease and don’t receive adequate health care because it has no symptoms, but patients are vulnerable to stroke, heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, and other complications. Those who are diagnosed often have no access to treatment because of poor adherence and the high cost of medicines.

In 2009, the DOH said about 167,000 Filipinos died from heart disease and stroke – the leading causes of mortality in the country. It added that half of these tragic deaths were related to high blood pressure.
